Allwinner’s success of entering Hewlett-Packard’s supply chain

Originally it appeared in China only under a different branding according to First round with a rebate – Compaq 8 scheduled for only 999 yuan on Jingdong [JD.com] [CNET News in Chinese, Nov 5, 2013]. In fact it is still sold for ¥ 999 i.e. $160, even on the Chinese Amazon. It was even especiall touted on Allwinner’s website as 惠普COMPAQ8平板复古玩法 (2013年12月10日) i.e. HP COMPAQ8 tablet retro gameplay [Dec 10, 2013]. Note that HP acquired Compaq years ago and using that brand for more price competitive offerings.

Then this same tablet appeared on HP’s tablet site as HP 8” for $170 without any special announcement as was discovered by the author of the HP Slate 8 Pro Is De-Listed [Mike Cane’s xBlog, Feb 26, 2013] post. Note that the HP Slate8 Pro offered before that was a quite expensive tablet with list price of $330. No wonder as it is using NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 SoC based on 4 Cortex-A15 cores and an NVIDIA GPU with up to 72 custom cores.
